Seal's fur is one of the fly tyer's most important staples. Nothing else takes on colour quite like seal's fur, and, thanks to its inherent translucency, transmits the colour in such a warm, natural, and lively manner. Trout wet flies are just not the same tied with synthetic substitutes, which fail miserably to provide that all important 'buzz of life'. Also an essential component in the dry fly tyer's armoury, providing a degree of natural buoyancy and again, a wash of transmitted light and colour. Much used also, in salmon, sea trout, pike, and saltwater flies.
